Quittich

My resolution this year is to quit smoking cigarettes, amongst other things. I figure the quitting will be a good barometer of my willingness and ability to change things about myself. I've gone eight days already, which is longer than I've gone without smoking for nearly three years. The last time I quit, which was for a week, was late January in 2003. It was the week I met Efi and we started hanging out and I promptly took up smoking again.

I don't think my heart was in it last time. I stayed in to avoid the temptation to smoke while out at a pub. This time I just decided enough is enough for a couple of reasons. My predominant reason is the expense, but I just don't like being beholden to some rotten substance. I also don't want to be an 'old smoker', if you know what I mean. I'm several years from that, but I'd like to look back when I'm 35 and be able to say, 'I quit a long time ago.'

Last, but not least, I don't want cancer.

Sorry I haven't been blogging too much, but I moved in with my cousin Mike and I no longer have the internet. I've been really into typing on my new old-fashioned typewriter. It's way fun.

one week after the new year; it's easy to hear the acceptance, surrender and ultimately the happiness that comes from basically asking "What is my truth "?

will,

I know what you mean by being an "old smoker." My great uncle died in December from lung cancer -- his funeral was on Christmas Eve and he smoked up to the day he died.

A sadder sight was not seen than when leaving the funeral home, I saw tons of his relatives and old friends smoking in the parking lot, many in front of their young kids. Boggles the mind.

So keep it up.

And type me an old-timey letter on that Olympia.

Good for you old bean! Keep it up, punches in the stomach for those who naysay. Does that there typewriter have a backspace that auto-whites out or am I showing my age?
